Dispensary and Mother Are Suing New Mexico for Medical Marijuana Shortage

NM Medical Marijuana

New Mexico is experiencing a medical marijuana shortage. One mother and Ultra Health, a medical marijuana dispensary, are suing the New Mexico Department of Health. The suit claims that the shortage of plants is directly and immediately harming patients.

One of the chief complaints in the suit is the strict limit of 450 plants for producers, according to reports by Biz Journals. The low limit is preventing producers from keeping up with the demand for medicine. Statewide, there are almost 27,000 registered medical marijuana patients.

Ultra Health has six locations in New Mexico. The limit of 450 plants per location means that Ultra Health can only possess 2,700 plants at a time to serve ten times as many patients. Ultra Health brought in the most sales receipts at $727,000 for the first quarter of 2016.

A hearing date regarding the lawsuit has not been set.
