Patients and Producers Are Pushing for Medical Marijuana Program Expansion

NM Weed

Patients and patient advocate groups across New Mexico are pushing to have the medical marijuana program expanded. Senator Cisco McSorley has introduced legislation to attempt to make a few expansions, including more qualifying conditions.

The new bill introduced by Senator McSorley would make several expansions, according to New Mexico Political Report. One new qualifying condition he’s interested in adding is opioid addiction. The first committee meeting regarding the bill is taking place this week.

Sean Gabaldon is a patient and patient advocate hoping that changes do come. An alliance of medical marijuana patients and producers was created by Gabaldon.

New Mexico attorney Joel Davis is also part of the New Mexico Medical Cannabis Alliance.  Davis said, “We want to make sure patients don’t get left behind.”

Representative Bill McCamley is attempting to pass legislation to legalize recreational marijuana in the state. Governor Martinez will be a hard sell when it comes to recreational marijuana. Willie Ford of Reynold Greenleaf and Associates says that McCamley has been “extremely awesome in responding to patients’ needs.”

Updates regarding McSorley and McCamley’s bills should be available soon.
