Journalist Asks Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson to Roll a Joint

New Mexico Marijuana

A journalist asked presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson to roll a joint, and his response was, “Well, it’s been a long time.” Johnson is abstaining from using marijuana while campaigning. He also supports each states’ right to legalize and regulate marijuana as they see fit.

Johnson has been publicly open about his marijuana use, according to Independent Journal Review (IJR). During an interview with IJR, Johnson claims to use marijuana “one and a half times a week.” He also admitted that, “In my heyday in college, I actually quantified it as two and a half times a week.”

On Johnson’s website, his support for marijuana legalization is displayed. Some of the website’s content reads: The Federal government should not stand in the way of states that choose to legalize marijuana. Governors Johnson and Weld would remove cannabis from Schedule I of the federal Controlled Substances Act, which would allow individual states to make their own decisions about both recreational and medical marijuana.

Johnson also stated, “Look, I’m not a criminal…I’m just a regular human being that if I choose to take the edge off from the day by consuming marijuana, who’s to begrudge me that?”

Recent polls show that in every state where recreational marijuana is on the ballots, voters support it. Johnson and a large portion of the American population are on the same page.
